Palma begins relocation of Blanquerna bicycle lane
The Palma City Council has begun work to relocate the bicycle lane from Blanquerna Street to 31 de Desembre Street. This move follows a mobility audit that identified the Blanquerna route as a major conflict point due to safety and coexistence issues between cyclists, pedestrians, and outdoor terrace areas.
Work has commenced with the installation of signage and road markings on 31 de Desembre Street, including parking prohibitions. This initial phase establishes a provisional route that will run along the even-numbered side of the street, continuing through Abu Yahyay Square and Francesc Suau Street. This temporary path is expected to be operational by early December.
Once the provisional route is active, the current Blanquerna lane will be removed. The city plans to eventually implement a permanent bicycle lane on the opposite side of 31 de Desembre Street, following a formal project design and bidding process.
