Palma de Mallorca police deploy body cameras for sensitive interventions
The Local Police of Palma de Mallorca have deployed Axon Body 4 cameras to the Immediate Intervention Unit (UII) to document sensitive incidents such as fights, assaults, and gender-based violence.
The devices are designed to record specific interventions where public safety is at risk rather than providing continuous street surveillance. The cameras utilize a rolling memory system that automatically overwrites footage unless a recording is manually activated. When an officer triggers the recording, the device also saves the minutes immediately preceding the activation to provide context for how a situation developed.
To ensure integrity and privacy, the footage is stored in an encrypted system. Officers wearing the cameras cannot modify or delete the recordings; access is restricted to a designated official. The police have emphasized that the technology is not intended for general surveillance, noting that citizens have a right to privacy.
