Palma Electoral Board clarifies travel rules for polling station duties
The Palma Zone Electoral Board has reiterated that travel arrangements do not exempt citizens from their duty to serve at polling stations if they are randomly selected.
Under current regulations, trips booked after the official electoral call is published in the BOE do not justify an absence. While previous elections, such as the 2023 General Elections and the 2024 European Elections, saw conflicts regarding pre-booked vacations, the board maintains that random selection is essential for ensuring electoral transparency.
An exception may be granted in specific cases where individuals can prove that travel tickets were purchased prior to the electoral announcement and that missing the duty would result in "significant economic loss or serious personal distress."
