Palma residents reclaim Plaça Major in protest against tourism massification

More than 500 residents gathered in Palma's Plaça Major for the penultimate ‘Sopar a la llesca’ of the summer, an initiative organized by the collective Brunzit. Participants used the event to reclaim public space and protest against a city model they claim is increasingly oriented toward tourism at the expense of local citizens.

Organizers described the gathering as a formal critique of the local government's perceived inaction and the privatization of public areas. The event featured residents sharing communal meals in the plaza to demonstrate that the local community still maintains a strong social fabric despite high levels of tourist massification.

Brunzit has announced a final summer edition of the event to be held at an emblematic location in Palma. While the specific site has not yet been disclosed, organizers stated it will be a place where walking or strolling has become difficult due to current urban conditions.
