Palmas and Taubaté launch social welfare and food security initiatives

Municipalities in Brazil are advancing social welfare and food security initiatives through new planning and certification processes.

In Palmas, the Municipal Secretariat of Social Development (Sedes) is preparing for the ‘Município Amigo do Futuro’ certification, which evaluates the integration of social assistance, health, and education to protect children's rights. Additionally, Palmas has opened a public consultation for its 2026–2029 Municipal Food and Nutritional Security Plan (PlamSan). This plan aims to strengthen food access through family farming, urban gardens, and school feeding programs.

In Taubaté, the local government has also launched a public consultation for its first Municipal Food and Nutritional Security Plan. This document will guide municipal actions over the next four years to ensure population access to healthy food. Both cities are emphasizing participatory governance by inviting civil society, farmers, and local communities to contribute to these public policies.
