Palmas and TRE-TO partner to expand voter accessibility

The Regional Electoral Court of Tocantins (TRE-TO) and the City Hall of Palmas have signed a technical cooperation agreement to expand accessibility for the 2026 elections. This initiative, part of the ‘Seu Voto Importa’ program, provides free transportation for voters with disabilities or reduced mobility, including an accompanying person when necessary. In rural areas, the service may also be offered if the distance between a residence and the polling station is at least two kilometers.

Broadly, Brazilian law and decisions by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) mandate the provision of free urban, municipal, intercity, and metropolitan public transport on election days. To prevent electoral crimes, service frequency must be maintained at levels equivalent to business days, and reducing transport services during voting is prohibited. These measures aim to ensure that displacement difficulties do not prevent citizens, including those in remote indigenous or riverside communities, from exercising their right to vote.
