Palmas, Brazil advances major road paving and drainage projects
The municipal government in Palmas began hot‑mix asphalt paving on a 19,600‑square‑metre segment of Avenida Siqueira Campos, replacing deteriorated pavement and restoring the road that links a key roundabout to the city’s airport. The work, carried out by the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Housing, includes full removal of the old surface, base preparation and new surfacing to keep traffic flowing on this high‑traffic corridor.
Separately, a state‑approved contract will fund the paving of 12.43 kilometres of streets in Quadra 1.007 South, together with a new storm‑water drainage system. The R$20.0 million project, announced by Governor Wanderlei Barbosa, aims to improve mobility, reduce flood risk and boost real‑estate values. As the Ageto president Túlio Pinheiro Labre noted, the drainage will increase road durability and public safety.
