Palmas, Brazil rolls out social opportunity program and $20 million street‑paving plan

The municipal government of Palmas held a meeting to advance the Costurando Oportunidades project, which aims to expand cultural and vocational training in sewing, entrepreneurship and financial inclusion. Officials including the subsecretary of Institutional Relations, the municipal finance secretary and the education subsecretary discussed integrated management, partnerships with schools, social entities and private firms, and the next steps for the initiative.

Separately, the city reported progress on its urban infrastructure program, allocating roughly R$ 20 million to pave nearly 60 streets. As of mid‑July 2026, 19 roads across eight neighborhoods—Serrinha, Dissenha, São Francisco, Klubegi, Santuário, Santa Cruz, Cascatinha and Centro—have received hot‑mix asphalt (CBUQ), improving safety, mobility and property values for residents.

Both initiatives reflect Palmas’ focus on boosting local employment, social development and urban quality of life.
