Brazil courts process multiple high-profile criminal rulings

Several judicial proceedings are underway in Brazil involving high-profile criminal cases. In Alagoas, the Court of Justice (TJAL) is reviewing appeals from four military police officers previously sentenced to over 100 years in prison for the 2014 disappearance and death of 17-year-old Davi da Silva. The Public Ministry of Alagoas opposes the appeals, citing telephone records and witness testimony as evidence.

In São Paulo, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) maintained the preventive detention of reserve Lieutenant Colonel Geraldo Leite Rosa Neto. He is accused of the feminicide of his wife, soldier Gisele Alves Santana, in February 2026. The court cited risks to the investigation, noting allegations that the defendant attempted to alter the crime scene to simulate a suicide.

Other recent rulings include the conviction of seven men in Palmas for the 2022 murder of a 20-year-old inside a prison facility, where the victim was lured to a blind spot. Additionally, a judge in Teresina denied freedom to a former municipal guard accused of killing his ex-wife and a city councilman, and a court in Buriticupu convicted three individuals for separate homicide cases.
