Palmas Health Secretariat promotes cervical cancer prevention
The Municipal Health Secretariat (Semus) of Palmas is intensifying activities at Family Health Units to promote cervical cancer prevention during the ‘Pink October’ campaign. The initiative aims to address common fears regarding the Pap smear, such as pain, embarrassment, or insecurity about the procedure.
Health professionals explain that the exam is a simple process lasting only a few minutes, involving the collection of a small cell sample for laboratory analysis. While some discomfort may occur, officials emphasize that it should not cause intense pain and encourage patients to communicate any concerns to their healthcare providers.
To ensure accurate results, women are advised to avoid sexual intercourse the day before the exam and refrain from using vaginal douches or medications for 48 hours prior to the procedure. Additionally, the exam should be performed outside of the menstrual period to prevent blood from interfering with the analysis.
