Palmeira highway restoration project enters final stages

The Paraná State Department of Highways (DER/PR) is nearing completion of a new viaduct on the PR-151 highway in Palmeira. This structure is part of a larger concrete restoration project connecting Palmeira and Ponta Grossa in the Campos Gerais region.

Work currently focuses on paving the viaduct lanes and access roads, which will be followed by the installation of signage, safety devices, and public lighting. Local traffic from several streets, including XV de Novembro and Avenida Nacim Bacila, will be redirected to two underpasses.

The broader project covers 32.71 kilometers of the PR-151, utilizing the ‘whitetopping’ technique. This method involves applying a 23-centimeter layer of rigid concrete over the existing asphalt to create a durable surface with an expected lifespan of 20 years. Additional improvements include earthmoving to widen the road platform for shoulders and third lanes, as well as drainage system upgrades. Approximately 70% of the services have been completed, with the project expected to be delivered by July of next year.
