Palmeiras extends contract of captain Gustavo Gómez
Palmeiras has extended the contract of captain and defender Gustavo Gómez. The 33-year-old Paraguayan, who previously had a commitment until December 2027, has signed a new deal valid until the end of 2030.
This renewal follows a similar move for defender Murilo, whose contract was extended until 2029. While the decisions secure key veteran leadership, some commentators have raised concerns regarding the club's policy of providing long-term contracts to older players, suggesting it could lead to issues with player motivation or roster age management in the future.
In addition to the contract news, Gómez has reached a historical milestone for the club. By appearing in a Copa Libertadores match against Cerro Porteño, he reached 172 appearances at the Nubank Parque, surpassing Raphael Veiga to become the third player with the most matches played at the stadium, trailing only Dudu and Weverton.
