Palmeiras defeats LDU Quito 1-0 in Libertadores quarter-final first leg

Palmeiras defeated LDU Quito 1-0 in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals at Nubank Parque. The decisive goal was scored by Argentine defender Agustín Giay in the 25th minute, following a rebound from a shot by Vitor Roque that was parried by LDU goalkeeper Gonzalo Valle.

Despite dominating much of the match, Palmeiras was unable to extend their lead, leaving the tie open for the second leg. The return match is scheduled for September 16 at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado in Quito, where LDU will benefit from the high altitude of approximately 2,850 meters.

In related news, Palmeiras' financial reports show a deficit of R$ 156.4 million for the first seven months of the year, though the club expects relief following the sale of player Allan to Manchester City for approximately R$ 240 million. Additionally, manager Abel Ferreira addressed recent criticisms from fans regarding his comments on the club's current momentum.
