Palmeiras reaches Copa Libertadores final after penalty shootout victory

Palmeiras has secured a place in the Copa Libertadores final for the second consecutive year after defeating Fluminense in a penalty shootout. Despite losing 1-0 in the second leg at Nubank Parque in São Paulo—with a goal from Hércules in the 82nd minute—Palmeiras advanced with a 5-3 victory in the shootout following a 2-2 aggregate score.

Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel emerged as the hero for the Brazilian side, saving a decisive penalty from Nonato. Palmeiras players Maurício, Gustavo Gómez, Ramón Sosa, Joaquín Piquerez, and Marlon Freitas all successfully converted their spot-kicks. Fluminense's goals in the shootout were scored by Thiago Silva, Hércules, and Guilherme Arana.

Palmeiras will face the winner of the semifinal match between Flamengo and Estudiantes de La Plata in the final, scheduled for November 28 at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay. This marks the fourth final for Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira since his appointment in 2020.
