Palmeiras launches commemorative medal collection for 1951 world title
Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras partnered with Brazil’s Casa da Moeda to issue a limited‑edition medal series marking the 75th anniversary of its 1951 intercontinental title (Copa Rio). The set comprises 1,015 pieces: 15 gold medals priced at about R$ 75,000, 300 silver medals at R$ 1,894, and 700 bronze medals at R$ 698. Sales begin on 3 August, with the gold version sold exclusively via bank slip; credit‑card payments are not accepted.
The 1951 tournament, contested by clubs such as Juventus, Sporting, Nacional and Vasco da Gama, was later recognised by FIFA in 2014 as the first worldwide club competition. The medal launch celebrates that historic triumph and follows previous Palmeiras‑Casa da Moeda collaborations in 2014 and 2021.
