Palmeiras President Praises Flaco López’s World Cup Final Spot

Palmeiras president Leila Pereira highlighted Argentine forward Flaco López’s participation in the 2026 World Cup final, saying it demonstrates the club’s work of excellence. López, the only Palmeiras player still in contention, played 18 minutes across two matches – eight minutes in a group‑stage win over Jordan and ten minutes in the quarter‑final against Switzerland, where his assist led to Julián Álvarez’s goal in a 3‑1 victory that sent Argentina to the semifinals.

Argentina will face Spain in the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday. The club also announced the signing of defender Alexander Barboza, who joined on a contract through 2028 for roughly R$ 20 million after Botafogo needed funds to cover player salaries. Barboza said he felt valued by Palmeiras and is ready to contribute.

FIFA’s club‑benefits programme will award Palmeiras more than R$ 4.35 million for players loaned to national teams, with López’s final appearance alone earmarked for US$ 200 000 (about R$ 1.02 million).
