Palmi volunteers collect 465 kilograms of waste at Pietrenere beach
Volunteers and participants in social reintegration programs collected 465 kilograms of waste during a cleanup initiative at Pietrenere beach, near the Tonnara di Palmi. The event, organized by Plastic Free and the association Seconda Chance, resulted in the removal of 25 bags of plastic, glass, and other materials, including tires, from the Costa Viola coastline.
The initiative included twenty individuals participating in external penal execution programs from the Reggio Calabria UEPE, representing the correctional facilities of Laureana di Borrello, Locri, and Vibo Valentia. Members of Libera and various family members also participated.
Valeria Votano, the Calabria regional representative for Seconda Chance, noted that the event provides visibility to often-unseen individuals and offers concrete opportunities for community participation. The cleanup was coordinated alongside Deborah Serratore of Plastic Free Palmi.
