Palmyra–Moleson Creek Highway begins asphalt paving trials
Asphalt paving trials have commenced on a 200-metre section of the Palmyra–Moleson Creek Highway in Guyana’s Region Six. The trial is located on Lot Two of the highway expansion project, covering the stretch between Bloomfield and Number 54 Village.
China Road and Bridge Corporation is executing the Lot Two works. The current trial involves a 70-millimetre levelling course on a 7.5-metre wide section. Following this testing phase, full-scale paving is projected to begin around September 15, with government estimates suggesting crews may pave approximately 100 metres per day.
The broader highway project aims to transform the existing two-lane corridor into a four-lane highway with wider carriageways, improved geometry, lighting, and enhanced safety features. The upgraded route is intended to facilitate smoother movement for residents, farmers, and businesses across East Berbice-Corentyne, particularly those traveling toward the Suriname border.
