Palo Alto student dies in Union City car crash

Community members are raising funds to support the family of Abigail Baca, a 14-year-old Palo Alto student who died following a car collision in Union City on September 11. According to a Union City police report, Baca was a passenger in a vehicle struck by a commercial truck at the intersection of Alvarado-Niles Road and Decoto Road. Both drivers involved remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help the family cover funeral and memorial expenses, with a goal of $28,000. As of Monday afternoon, the fundraiser had collected nearly $25,000.

In response to the tragedy, the Palo Alto Unified School District and Superintendent Jason Glass have provided grief support and mental health resources to students, including access to virtual therapy and local wellness centers.
