Paloma Sánchez-Garnica discusses new novel set in 1960s New York

Author Paloma Sánchez-Garnica discusses her new novel, ‘Un hombre de honor’, published by Planeta. Moving away from her previous setting of World War II Berlin, the story shifts to New York City in the late 1960s.

The narrative explores a turbulent era characterized by political violence, including the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy. The plot weaves together elements of the Italian-American mafia, systemic corruption, and CIA experiments such as MK Ultra.

Sánchez-Garnica noted that her inspiration for the book came from studying the investigation into Sirhan Sirhan and the historical influence of figures like Jimmy Hoffa. To depict the mafia's control over unions and the economy during that period, she drew research from the works of Mario Puzo and Gay Talese.
