Palora pitaya harvest begins in Santa Catarina, Brazil

In Santa Catarina, Brazil, the harvest of the Palora pitaya variety has begun in São João do Sul. This specific variety, which originated in Ecuador, is being cultivated as a winter alternative to traditional summer pitayas.

Producers expect a harvest of approximately 50 tons from a five-hectare plantation. Unlike common summer varieties produced between December and May, the Palora variety allows for production during the winter months, extending the commercialization period throughout most of the year. The variety is noted for being sweeter than traditional options, though it requires four to five years to reach maturity and significant production levels.
