Palos de la Frontera fire kills man in shanty town settlement

A fatal fire broke out at a shanty town settlement in the San Jorge industrial area of Palos de la Frontera, Huelva. The blaze destroyed approximately twenty makeshift dwellings constructed from plastic and wood. A 39-year-old man of Mauritanian origin, who worked in the local agricultural sector, was confirmed dead at the scene.

Social organizations, including CCOO Huelva, have condemned the incident, stating it is not an isolated accident but a consequence of the extreme precariousness and lack of dignified housing for migrant workers in the province. They have called on authorities to provide urgent housing solutions to prevent further tragedies in these settlements, which are frequently used by seasonal workers.
