Paltaoğlu Mansion: Residents call for restoration of 1890 historic site

Residents of the İğdir neighborhood in the Çivril district of Denizli are campaigning to save the historic Paltaoğlu Mansion from collapse. Built in 1890 by Hacı İsmail Ağa, the structure is considered a significant example of regional architecture and was reportedly used as a headquarters by the Greek army during the Greek occupation.

Despite being registered as a Protected Cultural and Natural Asset in 2001, the mansion has fallen into disrepair due to neglect. Local officials, including İğdir Neighborhood Mukhtar Sadettin Özel, noted that the restoration process is complicated by the fact that the building has 100 different heirs.

Local leaders have initiated contact with several institutions, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, and the Denizli Governor's Office, to seek intervention. Additionally, the İğdir Elders Council has petitioned to rename Karakaya Street to ‘İsmail Paltaoğlu Street’ to honor the building's history.
