Palu police arrest suspect in family murder case
Police in Palu, Central Sulawesi, have arrested a suspect, identified as AK, in connection with the murder of a family that occurred on July 26, 2026. The victims included a 32-year-old man, his 2-year-old child, and his 23-year-old wife, who died ten days after the attack.
AK had been hiding for approximately one month in a shack within the Balaroa liquefaction disaster area before requesting his family to contact the police so he could surrender. He did not resist arrest. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect was a coworker of the victim at a poultry slaughterhouse. The motive is suspected to be resentment following an incident involving a motorcycle.
In a separate incident in Central Kalimantan, a fire volunteer, Akhmad Rinjani, passed away after receiving medical treatment for hypertension. His condition reportedly deteriorated following a post-fire inspection in the Petuk Katimpun area. Local authorities have pledged to cover his medical expenses and provide compensation to his family. Regional data indicates that 428.46 hectares of land have burned across four districts in the region between June 1 and August 24, 2026.
