PAM Bandarmasih implements solutions for Banjarmasin water crisis

PT Air Minum Bandarmasih is implementing short-term and long-term strategies to address a water crisis in Banjarmasin caused by extreme drought and declining river water levels. The decrease in river flow has raised concerns regarding seawater intrusion and increased salinity in raw water sources.

In the short term, the company is maximizing available water sources, monitoring water quality, engineering distribution flows, and optimizing water blending. Additionally, water tank trucks have been deployed to provide free clean water to affected areas.

For long-term mitigation, PAM Bandarmasih plans to install an 800-millimeter diameter raw water pipe from Pematang Panjang to IPA 2 and construct reservoirs or pre-sedimentation tanks. These infrastructure projects aim to provide more reliable water reserves and have been discussed with local government and the Balai Wilayah Sungai Kalimantan III.
