Pamela Krzypkowska nominated to lead Poland's new AI Commission

The Polish Sejm's digitalization committee has issued a positive opinion regarding the candidacy of Pamela Krzypkowska to lead the Commission for AI Development and Security (KRiBSI). Proposed by Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Krzypkowska is expected to undergo a final vote in the Sejm on September 18.

Krzypkowska brings professional experience from both the private and public sectors, including four years at Microsoft working with machine learning and artificial intelligence, and several years within the Ministry of Digital Affairs. In her previous government roles, she oversaw programs for building AI factories and the development of the Polish language model, PLLuM.

The newly established commission, created under the AI Systems Act, will oversee the application of artificial intelligence regulations in Poland. Key objectives include managing regulatory sandboxes to allow companies to test technological solutions, providing legal clarifications, and handling citizen complaints regarding automated decision-making. The agency plans to start with a limit of 30 employees and intends to recruit specialists from the commercial market and institutions such as NASK and IDEAS.
