Pamela Mastropietro memorial vandalized in Rome

The memorial dedicated to Pamela Mastropietro in Rome's Piazza Re di Roma has been targeted by a new act of vandalism. Alessandra Verni, the mother of the 18-year-old victim, reported that the photograph on the commemorative plaque was removed and destroyed.

Verni noted that the act appeared premeditated, as the frame was secured with a metal chain that required specific tools to cut or force open. This incident follows previous instances of damage to the site.

The mother criticized local authorities, specifically the VII Municipio of Rome, for their recent assessment of the area. In official documentation from July 2026, the municipality stated that there was no evidence of frequent or systematic vandalism and concluded that dedicated video surveillance was not necessary. Verni argued that these official claims are contradicted by the recurring reality of the memorial being violated.
