PAMI private providers announce 48-hour strike in Argentina

Private healthcare providers for PAMI, Argentina's social security agency for retirees, have announced a 48-hour strike scheduled for Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28. The strike will affect clinics, sanatoriums, and private hospitals in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, San Juan, and Mendoza.

The Chamber of Argentine Social Security Providers (CAPRESS) initiated the measure to protest what it describes as an “unsustainable delay in fees” and significant payment arrears by PAMI. CAPRESS warned that the financial situation of these private institutions is extremely fragile, stating that if payments and service values are not regularized, the care of millions of retirees could be at risk.

During the strike, routine medical services will be suspended. Only emergency situations, classified as “red codes,” will be attended to in hospital emergency rooms. This action follows similar strikes recently conducted by institutions in Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, and La Pampa regarding similar fee update disputes.
