Pampa del Leoncito protected area vehicle recovery delayed

A Toyota Hilux remains trapped in the Pampa del Leoncito, a protected area in San Juan, nearly one month after entering a restricted muddy sector on August 8. The vehicle, driven by Agustín Añó, traveled approximately 1.5 kilometers through the clay-like terrain, leaving deep ruts up to 25 centimeters deep.

Environmental studies indicate that the damage to this sensitive ecosystem could take up to 80 years to naturally recover. While recent rains have altered the surface appearance, the deep tracks remain clearly visible.

National Gendarmerie personnel are currently guarding the site to prevent unauthorized removal attempts that could worsen the environmental impact. Authorities are still evaluating a recovery plan to extract the vehicle with minimal further damage, while legal proceedings continue to determine responsibility for the unauthorized entry into the protected zone.
