Pampatar Bay hosts traditional Barloventeo procession

Hundreds of boats participated in the traditional Barloventeo in honor of the Virgen del Valle in Pampatar Bay, Nueva Esparta. The maritime procession, which celebrates the patron saint of eastern Venezuela, brought together fishermen, devotees, and visitors to honor the religious tradition.

During the ceremony, one fishing boat (peñero) began to take on water and partially sink. Other vessels in the procession immediately moved to assist the crew. The crew was safely rescued, and the boat was secured and towed, allowing the ceremony to proceed as planned.

The event marks the 115th anniversary of the Virgin's canonical coronation. This year's commemoration was noted for its austerity and solidarity with victims of recent earthquakes in Venezuela, particularly in La Guaira.
