Pamplona commemorates violinist Pablo Sarasate
The city of Pamplona held a commemorative ceremony at the San José Cemetery to mark the 118th anniversary of the death of renowned violinist Pablo Sarasate. The event was attended by the Mayor of Pamplona, Joseba Asiron, and members of the municipal corporation.
A string quartet from the Navarra Symphony Orchestra performed several of Sarasate’s works, including ‘Reverie Op. 4’ and a reinterpretation of Chopin’s ‘Nocturno Op. 9 n.º 2’. During the tribute, Mayor Asiron highlighted Sarasate’s international legacy, noting that the artist performed for major European figures, including the Russian Tsar, while maintaining a deep connection to his birthplace.
Citizens and family members gathered to honor the musician, who is remembered as one of Pamplona’s ‘Hijos Predilectos’ (Favorite Sons).
