Pamplona deploys AI traffic radars to boost road safety

The City Council of Pamplona will add four new traffic radars equipped with artificial‑intelligence software to the four units already in operation. The eight devices are slated for deployment in June after completing mandatory homologation with the Spanish Metrology Centre.

The compact, cabin‑free radars can monitor several lanes simultaneously and automatically detect a range of violations, including excessive speed (10‑320 km/h), mobile‑phone use, seat‑belt neglect, improper lane changes and red‑light running. Planned installation sites are Avenida del Ejército, Avenida de Gipuzkoa near the Oblatas bridge, Calle Sadar and Paseo de Santa Lucía. Each unit costs about €20,000 (excluding VAT) and is intended to reduce traffic accidents and improve compliance with road rules across the city.
