Pamplona stabbing suspect ordered into provisional prison
A 26-year-old man has been ordered into provisional prison without bail following a stabbing incident in the Echavacoiz neighborhood of Pamplona. The suspect faces charges of attempted homicide and property damage.
The incident occurred near the former Ikastola Jaso premises on Monday morning during a fight involving white weapons. The victim, also of Maghrebi origin, sustained a knife wound to the chest and was evacuated to the Hospital Universitario de Navarra.
Following the attack, the suspect attempted to evade authorities by fleeing on foot and jumping into the river to hide in the vegetation. After a multi-hour search involving the Policía Foral, Villava Municipal Police, and firefighters, he was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday.
In police statements, the suspect claimed he acted in self-defense against a prior attack involving a chain and a padlock. However, the judge cited a risk of flight due to a lack of stable residence or employment, as well as the need to protect the victim, as grounds for pretrial detention.
