Pamukkale and Hierapolis natural and archaeological sites

Pamukkale, located in Turkey's Denizli province, is characterized by white travertine terraces formed over thousands of years by calcium-rich thermal springs. The water, which flows at approximately 35 degrees Celsius, deposits calcium carbonate to create natural pools that change color throughout the day, ranging from deep blue to golden hues.

To protect this delicate geological heritage, visitors are required to walk barefoot on the terraces. The site is closely linked to Hierapolis, an ancient thermal city founded in the 2nd century BC. The archaeological ruins of Hierapolis include a well-preserved Roman theater, a temple dedicated to Apollo, ancient baths, and an extensive necropolis containing numerous sarcophagi and funerary monuments.
