Izmir court continues trial of Doğuş Meşe for taxi driver murder

The trial of Doğuş Meşe continues in İzmir following the murder of taxi driver Deniz Örer. Meşe is facing charges of intentional homicide, robbery during the night, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The incident occurred on March 9, when a dispute over fare escalated into Meşe shooting Örer and fleeing with the vehicle.

During the second hearing at the İzmir 4th High Criminal Court, a witness identified as F. A. testified that Meşe had contacted them after the crime, claiming, “I hijacked my father’s taxi,” and admitting to the killing. The witness further stated that Meşe appeared to be under the influence of synthetic drugs.

In court, Meşe expressed regret, stating, “I am as sorry as a dog,” while the victim’s wife, Ayşe Örer, demanded a life sentence, expressing her profound grief and desire for justice. The court has decided to maintain Meşe’s detention, with the next hearing scheduled for January 21.

In a separate criminal matter in Istanbul, a live-in domestic worker, Türkan Ç., was arrested for stealing Ottoman-era jewelry and personal items valued at approximately 11.65 million lira from the home of Mesude Evliyazade. Part of the stolen goods were recovered in İzmir.
