Pan-African Parliament delegation conducts advocacy mission in Senegal

The West Africa Regional Group of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is conducting an advocacy mission in Dakar, Senegal, from September 28 to October 1, 2026. Led by Honorable Lazare Yao Yao, the delegation includes parliamentarians from Benin, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Senegal, and Sierra Leone.

The primary objective is to accelerate the ratification of several African Union instruments. A central focus is the 2014 Revised Protocol relating to the Pan-African Parliament, which, once ratified, would grant the PAP legislative powers. The mission also promotes the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, the Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, and protocols related to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), including those concerning digital trade and investment.

During the mission, the delegation met with Senegal’s First Vice-President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye. Ndiaye reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to strengthening the PAP, consolidating democracy, and enhancing cooperation between national parliaments and continental institutions to better monitor PAP resolutions.
