Pan-African Parliament pushes for integration and climate agency

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is emphasizing the need to convert long-standing integration goals into concrete progress for African citizens. Marking African Union Day, PAP President Dr. Fateh Boutbig noted that the vision for a united Africa, established by the 1999 Sirte Declaration, remains vital. He stated that the institution is committed to advancing the objectives of Agenda 2063 by working with member states to promote good governance, peace, security, and shared prosperity.

In a separate effort to strengthen continental leadership, the PAP is participating in the Fourteenth Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa in Addis Ababa. During the conference, PAP First Vice-President Hon. Dr. Ashebir Gayo advocated for greater climate agency, urging African nations to move beyond mere participation in global processes. He highlighted the importance of parliaments translating climate commitments into national legislation and budgets, specifically citing the PAP Model Law on Climate Change as a tool to help member states strengthen their legislative frameworks.
