The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is supporting the recovery of health services in Venezuela following the earthquakes that occurred on June 24. As the humanitarian response transitions from the initial emergency phase to a recovery phase, PAHO is focusing on the rehabilitation of health facilities, ensuring the continuity of vaccination programs, and strengthening national sanitary capacities to prepare for future adverse events.

Official figures indicate the dual earthquake resulted in at least 6,125 deaths, over 16,700 injuries, and left approximately 18,000 people without housing. The World Bank estimates the material damages from the disaster at 19.6 billion dollars.

During the initial emergency phase, PAHO coordinated the deployment of 22 Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) from 14 different countries. The organization also provided technical assistance for epidemiological surveillance, mental health, and psychosocial support, while facilitating the delivery of 33.5 tons of essential medicines, supplies, and equipment.
