United States resumes official activities in Michoacán
The United States government has fully resumed official activities in Michoacán, Mexico, as of August 13. This decision follows a suspension that began on August 5 due to security threats, which had interrupted USDA-APHIS inspections responsible for certifying avocado exports to the U.S. market.
U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson credited the resumption to enhanced security measures implemented by the Mexican government, specifically noting the coordination of the Mexican Security Cabinet. The ambassador characterized the move as a result of cooperation between the administrations of President Claudia Sheinbaum and President Donald Trump, aimed at protecting food production, supply chains, and legitimate trade.
Despite the resumption of inspections and official duties, the U.S. Embassy maintains a Level 4 (Do Not Travel) advisory for Michoacán, urging citizens to remain cautious and stay informed.
