PAN criticizes Mexican Embassy in Spain and leadership's European tour
Members of the National Action Party (PAN) have criticized the Mexican Embassy in Spain for hosting an exclusive, high-cost celebration for Mexico's Independence Day. Legislators Federico Döring Casar, Genoveva Huerta, and Raúl Torres Guerrero alleged that Ambassador Quirino Ordaz organized a ‘VIP’ event that excluded much of the local Mexican community in favor of selected guests. The celebration reportedly involved over 40 sponsors and costs exceeding 50,000 euros, contrasting with the ‘popular’ celebrations held in public squares.
Simultaneously, PAN national leader Jorge Romero Herrera is conducting a tour of Europe, including visits to the European Parliament, to discuss the political situation in Mexico with international parties. President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the timing of this trip, noting it coincides with the formal start of the 2027 electoral process. While Romero stated the goal is to inform European entities about the current administration, Sheinbaum characterized the move as an attempt to take domestic political accusations to an international stage.
