Chihuahua political landscape shifts ahead of 2027 elections
Political activity is intensifying in Chihuahua ahead of the 2027 elections. Chihuahua Mayor Marco Bonilla has been designated as the PAN state political coordinator, a role in which he is working to strengthen the party's structure across all 67 municipalities, starting in Ciudad Juárez. While Bonilla has stated this is not a formal candidacy for governor, social organizations and political analysts suggest he is a leading profile for the position.
Internal competition within the PAN for the Chihuahua municipal presidency remains high. Recent polling from Rubrum shows César Jáuregui leading with 30.9 percent, followed by Manque Granados and Santiago de la Peña. Another poll by Vernier indicates the PAN holds a significant advantage in general voter preference for the municipality with 46.2 percent, compared to 30.7 percent for MORENA. Within the PAN, candidates like Rafa Loera also maintain notable support.
In response to these political shifts, Morena legislator Cuauhtémoc Estrada has criticized the internal processes of the PAN, suggesting that recent comments from the Governor regarding certain candidates imply a lack of true democratic selection within the party.
