PAN, Movimiento Ciudadano and Green Party lose state registration after Coahuila legislative vote

The June 2026 legislative elections in Coahuila resulted in the PRI retaining a majority while the leading opposition parties failed to meet the 3% vote threshold required for state registration. The National Action Party (PAN) obtained only about 2.16% of the valid votes, Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) about 1.96%, and the Green Party (PVEM) roughly 2.60%. Because none reached the legal minimum, all three parties automatically lost their local registration, forfeiting state public funding, representation on the electoral council, and access to proportional‑representation seats.

The loss reshapes Coahuila's political landscape, limiting competition to PRI, Morena, PT and UDC. Morena, which was defeated in the legislative race, alleged irregularities such as vote‑buying via QR codes and intimidation of its members. Meanwhile, a national poll ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections shows Morena leading in 15 of the 17 states that will hold governor races, with the PAN holding narrow leads only in Aguascalientes and Querétaro. The Coahuila outcome sets the stage for party strategies as Mexico heads toward the next round of state elections.
