PAN proposes national registry for animal abusers in Portugal

The PAN party has scheduled two legislative initiatives for debate in the Portuguese Parliament on the 21st, aimed at strengthening animal protection laws.

The proposals include the creation of a national registry for animal abusers to allow competent entities and animal protection associations to access records of convictions or administrative offenses. This registry is intended to facilitate monitoring, ensure the fulfillment of penalties, and prevent recidivism.

Additionally, the party seeks to autonomously criminalize zoophilia to ensure a more effective legal response to sexual acts committed against animals. PAN also plans to advance measures to combat animal abandonment, including sterilization campaigns and deterrent penalties such as the loss of driving license points for those who abandon animals on public roads.
