Panagia Faneromeni icon arrives at Agios Dimitrios Church in Volos

The Holy and Miraculous Icon of Panagia Faneromeni from Nea Michaniona, Thessaloniki, has arrived at the Holy Church of Agios Dimitrios in Volos. The icon's presence is part of the ‘DIMITRIA 2026’ festive celebrations held in honor of Saint Demetrius.

The icon was brought by Archimandrites Pavlos Kakavelis and Augustinos Katsimanes and was received on behalf of Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias by Protosyncellus Archimandrite Maximos Papaioannou. The transfer was made with the blessing of Metropolitan Justin of Nea Krini and Kalamaria.

Historically, the icon is deeply connected to the Greek identity of Asia Minor and the refugees who settled in Nea Michaniona following the Asia Minor Catastrophe. It serves as a religious heirloom and a symbol of the refugees' faith and traditions. The icon will remain at the Agios Dimitrios Church in Volos until Tuesday, October 27.
