Panagia Soumela Monastery to host Dormition feast in August 2026

The Panagia Soumela Monastery in Kastania, Imathia, will host the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God on August 14 and 15, 2026. The event serves as a significant continuation of the religious and national heritage of the Greek people from Pontus.

During the celebrations, the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, will be honorably awarded the Grand Cross of the Megalo Komnenos Emperors of Trebizond, in accordance with the monastery's code.

The religious services will be led by Metropolitan Panteleimon of Veria, Naousa, and Campania, alongside several other high-ranking clergy. The event will see attendance from various government officials, including the Deputy Minister of Interior for Macedonia and Thrace, the Deputy Minister of Development, and representatives from the Hellenic Parliament, the Armed Forces, and various Pontian associations.
