Panagiotis Fasoulas announces candidacy for Greek Basketball Federation presidency
Former basketball player Panagiotis Fasoulas has announced his intention to run in the upcoming elections for the presidency of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK). His announcement comes amid significant controversy and allegations of corruption within Greek basketball.
Fasoulas criticized the current management, citing three major scandals. He noted that while one scandal has led to the imprisonment of the Federation's president and associates, the organization continues to operate despite legal requirements for elections to be held within 25 days. He further alleged that the current leadership is delaying the electoral process.
Regarding officiating, Fasoulas claimed there is a lack of credibility in Greek referees, stating they are not being selected for international competitions. He also addressed scandals involving school-level games, describing the situation as a form of “cannibalism” and criticizing those involved for their lack of ethics.
Fasoulas suggested that while the Minister of Sports, Giannis Vroutsis, cannot unilaterally dissolve the Federation, he should communicate with FIBA to explain the ongoing situation.
