Panagiotis Tournavitis, CEO of the Cooperative Bank of Karditsa, has been unanimously elected President of the European Federation of Ethical and Alternative Banks and Financiers (FEBEA). The election took place during the federation's Annual General Assembly held on September 25, 2026, in Venice.
Tournavitis will lead a new management team that includes Vice President Andrea Baranes of Banca Etica, alongside 11 additional members representing ethical financial institutions from across Europe. The assembly, hosted by Banca Etica, brought together representatives from 32 to 33 member institutions, EU bodies, and social economy organizations.
Key institutional partners in attendance included the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the European Investment Fund, and the Council of Europe Development Bank. In his address, Tournavitis emphasized the resilience of ethical banking rooted in local communities and warned against the risk of inward-looking economic tendencies within Europe.
