Panam Sports Week forum addresses gender equality in athletics

During the second day of Panam Sports Week in Lima, Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell was honored for his career achievements. Powell, a former 100-meter world record holder, participated in the ‘Women in Sport’ forum.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry addressed the forum, emphasizing that promoting equal opportunities for female athletes is a shared responsibility. Coventry noted that while progress has been made, further efforts are required to increase participation for girls and to provide more opportunities for women to serve as coaches and leaders.

Panam Sports President Neven Ilic also contributed to the discussion, stating that such spaces are created based on individual capability rather than gender.
