Panama and Chile conduct national emergency evacuation drills

Panama and Chile are conducting large-scale emergency evacuation drills to test national response capacities and community resilience.

In Panama, the Third National Evacuation Drill, titled ‘La resiliencia empieza en casa’, is scheduled for Monday, October 12. Organized by the Ministry of Government (Mingob) and the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC), the exercise aims to measure the response capabilities of various public and private institutions. Officials expect participation from over 10% of the population during the 10:00 a.m. evacuation.

In Chile, SENAPRED Atacama is leading a massive evacuation drill on Thursday, October 8, specifically targeting coastal communities. The simulation focuses on a high-intensity earthquake followed by a tsunami. This initiative is part of the ‘Chile Preparado’ program, which has been training citizens in various threat scenarios, such as volcanic eruptions and mass movements, since 2010.
