Panama anticipates high travel volume and economic shifts
Tocumen International Airport is preparing for a significant surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Fiestas Patrias holiday period. Between October 30 and November 10, an estimated 95,000 additional local passengers are expected to travel through the terminal. Copa Airlines alone projects moving over 90,000 local passengers, with peak departure volumes expected on October 31.
In the tourism sector, industry leaders from the National Chamber of Tourism (CAMTUR) and the Panamanian Hotel Association (APATEL) are urging citizens to visit domestic destinations. This initiative aims to support economic recovery in interior communities following an earthquake on October 9. Representatives emphasized the importance of maintaining Panama’s international reputation as a reliable tourist destination.
Meanwhile, the September Consumer Confidence Index indicates that employment remains a primary concern for Panamanians. Approximately 41% of respondents expressed low confidence in their ability to secure employment within the next six months. This labor market uncertainty has led to increased financial caution among households and a more prudent approach to consumer spending.
